Tech Tip Tuesday

FORCE COPY

Often people do not make a copy of the Google Doc, Slide, Sheet
or Drawing that you share with them.
They unknowingly edit your original and do not make a copy of it before making changes.
Below is step by step instructions on how to Force a copy of a Google Doc, Slide, Sheet
and/or Drawing.

STEP 1

Click the share button and share the document as either "anyone with the link" or "public".
This must be done in order for you to enable force a copy.

STEP 2
Click in the search box and look at the end of the link.

Replace the word EDIT with the word COPY in the link.

Click return/enter.

STEP 3

Copy and paste this new copy link.  You can put this link in an email, in your presentation,
Tech Tip Newsletter, website and more.
Make sure that you did STEP 1.  If not then the link will not work.
When the user clicks on the link you shared with them they will be immediately
prompted to make a copy of your file.
Once they click the “Make a Copy,” button, the magic happens and it makes a copy
of the file and automatically adds it to their Google Drive.

NO more original files messed up and needing to be fixed!
